Railroad History

The Southern Pacific Railroad Burbank Branch was a railroad line located in California, United States. The line was originally built in the late 19th century as a means of connecting the rapidly growing city of Burbank to the wider Southern Pacific Railroad network. At its peak, the Burbank Branch was a bustling hub of activity, transporting goods and passengers to and from the city. However, as the automobile became more popular and air travel took off, the use of the railroad line declined. In the mid-20th century, passenger service on the Burbank Branch was discontinued, and the line was eventually abandoned altogether. Today, much of the former right-of-way of the Burbank Branch has been repurposed for other uses, such as bike trails or parks. However, the line remains an important part of Southern California's transportation history, and a reminder of the crucial role that railroads once played in connecting communities and supporting commerce.
